About Dr. Simon...
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Palatine, Illinois. I am a graduate of Midwestern University and am a generalist, which means I provide services for individuals of all ages with many types of presenting problems. I have specialized training in the area of High Functioning Autism/Aspergers Syndrome, and enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with social difficulties and emotional deregulation. I also enjoy working with adults who struggle with anxiety and depression or those who are going through a change or life transition. My goal is to create a safe place for my clients to address social and emotional issues that create distress, gain a greater understanding of their problems, and use their strengths to make positive changes to move towards their goals.
When working with individual clients, I use play therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. Play therapy helps children to express their feelings when they have difficulty using words. Themes that emerge in play help me gain a greater understanding of what the child may be thinking and feeling. Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps individuals recognize how their thoughts and feelings impact their behavior. I work in collaboration with my clients to challenge those negative thoughts, create more positive thinking patterns, and help them engage in healthier behaviors.
